50 kg Load Cell: Compact, Field-Ready Measurement

50 kg load cell

A 50 kg load cell might look simple, but in geotechnical work, getting reliable numbers from smaller forces is often trickier than handling big ones. At Kingmach, we’ve seen engineers wrestle with drift, moisture ingress, and mounting constraints in tight monitoring setups. That’s why our 50 kg units focus on repeatable output and practical integration—rather than just chasing specs on paper. They’re built for anchor load checks, strut force monitoring, or lab-scale pile tests, where space is limited but accuracy can’t be negotiable.

Technical Detail

Configured around process stability, mold life, and long-term uptime.

This 50 kg load cell reflects Kingmach’s deeper background in geotechnical instrumentation. Many standard off-the-shelf cells aren’t designed for long-term burial or high-humidity cable runs. We configure ours with strain gauge sealing that industry practice suggests is less prone to zero-shift, and we pair them with robust cable options suited for trench or conduit use. Key points that matter in the field: - Output typically around 1.5–2 mV/V, making it compatible with most readout units used on construction sites. - Compact envelope—height often below 60 mm—fits between anchor bearing plates and hydraulic jacks. - Material options include alloy steel or stainless steel, with the latter commonly specified in coastal or high-moisture environments. Kingmach’s manufacturing setup means we can supply these cells as stand-alone devices or as part of a monitoring kit with portable indicators. Custom ranges close to 50 kg, different thread sizes, or integrated TEDS identification are available when project needs go beyond catalogue listings. And because we run a global distribution network, delivery and local support aren’t tied to one time zone.

FAQ

Common technical questions

Is a 50 kg load cell accurate enough for a strut monitoring job?

For most civil engineering strut monitoring, what matters is repeatability over weeks, not a laboratory-grade absolute number. A properly sealed 50 kg cell from Kingmach, when installed parallel to the load path and temperature-compensated, can give you drift-free readings within a couple of percent—enough to spot trends before they become problems.

Can I use this load cell outdoors if it gets wet?

You can, but it’s not just about an IP rating sticker. We tend to recommend the stainless steel version with a vented cable so condensation doesn’t creep inside. Proper booting of the cable exit and a drip loop in the wiring go a long way. Many of our users combine these with a desiccant-filled junction box for extra margin in wet climates.

How do I mount a 50 kg load cell in a tight space between an anchor plate and jack?

Standard practice is to use a cell whose diameter is smaller than the bearing plate recess. If that’s still tight, we can machine a custom slim-profile version that drops the height to around 40 mm. The mating surfaces must be flat and parallel—any offset can shear the cell and throw off readings. Often a thin hardened steel spacer above and below solves alignment issues.

What readout devices work with your 50 kg load cell?

Almost any indicator that accepts a 2 mV/V input—from simple handheld units to Campbell Scientific or DT data loggers. We also offer a plug-and-play kit with a portable display that’s already calibrated for the cell. If you need 4–20 mA or RS485 output for PLC integration, we can supply an inline amplifier with the same pinout.
