Common technical questions
How many load cells can I connect to one junction box?
Most standard boxes take 4, 6, or 8 cells. We also make compact 2-channel types for simpler scales and have done 10-channel or more for multi-point hoppers. Let us know your system layout and we'll suggest the right channel count.
Do I need corner adjustment pots in the junction box?
If you use paired summing and trimming in the indicator or have a perfectly rigid structure, maybe not. But for most floor scales, the pots help balance the readings from each corner during initial calibration. It's a practical way to compensate for minor mechanical tolerances, and we include them by default unless you ask to leave them out.
What's the difference between a 4-wire and 6-wire junction box?
In 4-wire systems, excitation and sense share the same wires, so cable length can shift the zero. 6-wire sensing feeds back the actual voltage at each cell, correcting for cable drops. If your indicator supports 6-wire sensing and your cable runs exceed a few meters, ask for 6-wire junction boxes - they keep the signal more stable.
Can you supply a junction box that survives outdoor washdown?
Yes. Our stainless steel enclosures with IP66 or IP67 sealing and silicone glands hold up well. We also pot the PCB for an extra layer of protection. Tell us the cleaning chemicals and pressure, and we'll make sure the seals and materials are compatible.
What surge protection do your junction boxes include?
Standard models have basic filtering, but for exposed sites we add gas discharge tubes and transient voltage suppression on each channel, plus a dedicated ground post. This gives you a reasonable defense against nearby lightning strikes and motor startups. If you're in a high-lightning area, we can quote a box with heavy-duty surge modules.
